This year marks the fifteenth anniversary of the festival. If you've yet to experience this gastronomic extravaganza...hurry! Welcome bags a/k/a hospitality bags are a lovely way to embrace family and friends who have traveled from afar, to attend your celebration. They set the tone for the fabulous festivities you have planned for your guests. So, it's important to put some creativity into the design.

Yes, it's true. There's just no way around it. Welcome bags do make an impact, but I wouldn't stress about them. I see the eyes rolling! Easier said than done, right? Wrong! Simply plan in advance by using my guide for success.

3 - 4 Months Prior

Choose the Style, Color, Theme, Etc. of Welcome Bags and Tissue Paper
Searching for canvas totes? I suggest Lands' End. For beautiful paper bags in all shapes and sizes and tissue paper in every hue you can imagine, I love shopping online at Nashville Wraps!

Create a List of Perishable and NonPerishable Items
I usually include Bottled Water, Individual Bags of Chips, Pretzels, Cookies,Chocolates, Peanuts, Bananas, Apples, Granola Bars, Breath Mints (A must when I'm shopping for client's and always a hit!), Theme Items, Etc.

Having a beach themed event? Why not add suntan lotion, a bright beach towel, inflatable ball, flip flops, etc. Expecting guests with young children? How about supplying Uno game cards, crayons or colored pencils, coloring books, Mad Libs and puzzles.

2 - 3 Months Prior

Order Bags and Tissue Paper
Estimate and count anyone that might attend...then add a few to the final number, in case of that last minute addition or a bag ruined in transit.

Order Custom Gift Tags/Labels
Customizing is a popular way to make a chic statement, without spending a ton of money. Remember to use good quality paper if printing these yourself. Check out wiskergraphics. This company allows you to format your text with their graphics and then print your gorgeous creations at home or the office!

Order Custom Water Bottle Labels
This is a personal preference, but one I feel is worth the money. Search etsy.com for vendors offering a multitude of shapes, sizes and styles.

Compose A Short Welcome Letter
It's customary to include a short note welcoming and thanking people for taking the time out of their busy schedules to attend your event.

Create A Weekend Itinerary
Guests want to know where and when they have to be someplace. When prepared in advance, it alerts the host to any potential scheduling issues and gives them ample opportunity to make changes. See the adorable example below for inspiration.

Visit Your Local AAA Office
If the schedule allots for guests to have time to themselves during their stay, maps and brochures for popular city sites are a must. AAA offices around the country make them available to members free of charge.

Purchase Labels and/or Gift Tags
If printing these yourself, make sure to order more than you think you'll need. If a mistake happens, they'll be no need to worry.

Purchase Paper For Welcome Letter
Order online or find a specialty paper store in your area. Once again, always order more than you think is needed...just in case! The Paper Mill Store or paper and more! offer huge selections at great prices.

Print Labels and/or Tags
If printing them yourself, give enough time for mishaps. If you find you've taken on more than you can handle, there's still time to hire a printing professional in your area to take the pressure off your hands.

Shop for NonPerishable Items
Set aside anything you buy together in a cool, dry place away from pets, small children and direct sunlight.

Request Help for Delivery of Hospitality Bags
The week leading up to an event is hectic. Ask a trustworthy friend or relative to deliver hospitality bags to the hotel.

2 Weeks Prior

Finalize Welcome Letter to Guests
Print letter, sign each one and set aside with the nonperishable items. Why? Trust me, I've heard horror stories of letters being misplaced by people. Keep everything together!

Assemble Hospitality Bags
If fashioning a large number of bags, why not invite a few friends over for an "Stuffing Soiree?" Gab with the girls, sip a glass of wine, while organizing welcome bags! Once completed, set the bags if possible in the same area the non-perishables were stored. Have your designated friend or family member deliver the bags to the hotel the night before your guests arrive.

The Week of The Event

Shop for Perishable Items
No one enjoys spoiled fruit! Choose fruits that stay fresh longer, like apples, bananas and oranges. Place them in the hospitality bags no earlier than the day they are to be delivered to the hotel.

Confirm Procedure with Hotel for the Delivery and Distribution of the Welcome Bags
Find out which staff member will be responsible for accepting and storing the hospitality bags once they arrive at the hotel. Bags should be clearly marked with the individual, family or couple's name. This provides the hotel's staff guidance at check-in. A host can also stop by the front desk to view who hasn't arrived and/or didn't receive their treats upon arrival.

It's official...today begins stone crab season! I can't wait to sink my teeth into a chilled jumbo claw, dunked in mustard sauce. If you've never tasted these succulent claws and are up for an adventure, head down to Marathon in the Florida Keys. There you'll find the Keys Fisheries Market and Marina, the supplier of stone crab claws for the famous, Joe's Stone Crab in Miami Beach, Florida. Beware though before you venture...if your vision of dining out must include waiters in tuxedos, fine china and crystal, you won't find that at Keys Fisheries Market and Marina. People go there for the fresh seafood at a price that can't be beat! Order at the counter, then dine alfresco while savoring the sunset's breath-taking views. It's no fuss dining and worth the trip in my opinion. If you can't break away for a visit, head over to your local seafood market or purchase stone crabs online.

Although some enjoy them heated with drawn butter, I relish mine chilled with mustard sauce. I'm planning to celebrate the start of the season tonight with a family feast. Why not start your own tradition by having one too? In fact, here's the mustard sauce recipe I found online and love. Now all that's needed are your family, friends and of course...lots of mouthwatering stone crab!

Trend Alert...Whoopee Pies Are Taking Over!

Whoopee pies are quickly stealing the spotlight from cupcakes and are becoming the "must have" dessert at events. Considered a comfort food by the people of Maine, whoopee pies originated with the Pennsylvanian Amish. The Amish created these divine darlings from leftover batter. Legend has it they were named whoopee pies, because the Amish children would exclaim, "Whoopee!" when finding one in their lunch bag.

Like cupcakes, whoopee pies can be made in an assortment of flavors, satisfying everyone's inner dessert diva. Chocolate and Mint Whoopee Pies

Serves: 28

Ingredients:

Cookies

¾ cup Unsalted Butter

¾ cup Dark Brown Sugar

2 Eggs

3 cups Flour

¾ cup Unsweetened Cocoa Powder

2tsp Baking Soda

1tsp Salt

1 ½ cup buttermilk

1 ½ tsp vanilla

½ tsp instant coffee

Filling

¾ cup unsalted butter

1tsp Vanilla

½ tsp mint Extract

¼ tsp Green Food Coloring

2 ¾ cups Confectioners’ Sugar

2 ½ cups Marshmallow Fluff

Optional: Chocolate Jimmies to coat the outside of the whoopee pie.

Directions:

Cookies | Cream butter and sugar in a large bowl. Add eggs one by one until fully incorporated. Follow by adding the vanilla to the mix. In a second bowl, combine all of the dry ingredients. Take a third bowl and dissolve the coffee in the buttermilk. Add ½ the dry ingredients into the butter mixture, then continue by adding half of the buttermilk mixture. Slowly incorporate all of the ingredients together. Finish by adding the rest of the dry ingredients and then the rest of the buttermilk. Scoop the batter onto a nonstick pan forming 56 circles. Cook at 350 degrees for 10 minutes. You are looking for the cookie to be firm on the outside but still be soft in the inside. Allow to cool.

Filling | Make a butter cream by mixing the butter, sugar, vanilla, mint extract and food coloring. Fold in the marshmallow fluff. Place the filling in the cooler to stiffen.

Assembly:
Place a small scoop of marshmallow fluff on a cookie and top with another cookie. Roll the sides with jimmies.

Cousin Jonnie's Red Velvet Whoopee Pies

Serves: 24

Ingredients:

Pies:

3 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
2 teaspoons unsweetened cocoa powder
1/2 cups canola oil
1 teaspoon white vinegar
1 (1-ounce) bottle red food coloring
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 1/2 cups sugar
2 eggs
1 cup buttermilk

Filling:

5 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1 cup milk
1 cup sugar
8 tablespoons butter (1 stick), softened
1/2 cup solid vegetable shortening (recommended: Crisco)
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Directions:

Pies:
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Lightly grease 2 cookie sheets. Sift the flour, baking soda, and cocoa together in a large bowl. In a separate bowl, combine the oil, vinegar, food coloring, and vanilla.
Using an electric mixer, beat the sugar and eggs together in a large bowl until they turn pale and double in volume. Add the oil mixture and beat to combine. Add the flour mixture and buttermilk alternately in 5 small additions, starting and ending with the flour.
Drop the batter by teaspoons onto the baking sheets, allowing 1-inch between drops, as the cookies will spread. You'll be making 48 cookies. Bake until the cookies are firm but not crisp, about 8 to 10 minutes. Transfer immediately to racks to cool.

Filling:
Put the flour into a medium saucepan and slowly add the milk, whisking until smooth. Set over medium heat and cook, stirring constantly with a whisk, until very thick, about 3 minutes. Remove the flour mixture from the heat and allow it to cool completely.
Cream the sugar, butter, shortening, and vanilla in a large bowl with an electric mixer. Add the cooled flour mixture and whip until fluffy. Spread some filling onto 1 cookie and top it with another to make a sandwich. Repeat with the remaining cookies and filling. Cover the filled whoopee pies with plastic wrap and store in the refrigerator until ready to serve.

One of the elements that sets Walt Disney World a part from other destination wedding locations is its vast portfolio of unique venues, capable of hosting wedding ceremonies and receptions from intimate to grand.

It was hot and humid the morning I walked into Franck's Bridal Studio to meet Korri and Meredith for the first time. I was happy to find myself in the presence of two upbeat, talented and engaging ladies. After acquainting me with Franck's newly redesigned bridal studio, we jumped in a car and took off for the American Adventure at EPCOT.

Before I go on, let me fill you in on something...

I am a big fan of Walt Disney World! No, my house is not decorated with Disney decor, but I grew up with parents who loved taking my brother and I to the Magic Kingdom. I can still remember an afternoon in 1980, when my family and I rode the monorail to a cement platform that is now the monorail station for EPCOT. We gazed in amazement at a large silver ball being erected in the middle of a vast sea of dirt. In 1982, a week before it's opening to the public, I experienced Spaceship Earth for the very first time.

As we entered the rotunda of the American Adventure, again my mind flooded with memories. I'd strolled around the ornate room many times while listening to patriotic songs performed by the Voices of Liberty. Candles, rich colored linens, china, crystal, decoratively folded napkins elegantly displayed in the center of each guest's plate, floral arrangements...this place had such possibilities! The American Adventure can be utilized for parties of 100 guests or more. It seats up to 230 guests comfortably with a dance floor, when occupying the first and second floors of the rotunda.

Stepping out into the sunshine, we walked to Italy Isola, an outdoor space offering exceptional views of EPCOT's nighttime fireworks spectacular, IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth. The area is full of character and is perfect for a cocktail or dessert party for 100-150 people or an ambrosial buffet for 50-60 guests.

Back in the car, we headed to Disney's Boardwalk for a peak inside the Atlantic Dance Hall. Couples looking for a non-traditional atmosphere, with a high energy feel and enough room to dance the night away, will adore this venue! The Atlantic Dance Hall has a seating capacity for 130 and is available for buffet style service only.

The tour continued at Disney's Wedding Pavilion located next to Franck's Bridal Studio. This non-denominational pavilion was designed to comfortably seat up to 300 guests, showcases picturesque views of Cinderella's Castle, has a state of the art sound system, organ and video cameras discreetly placed throughout the room, allowing videographers to capture every angle of a ceremony.

A short walk from the Wedding Pavilion brings us to the doors of Disney's Grand Floridian Resort and Spa. It's ballrooms are designed with the same understated Victorian grace and charm the adorn the resort. Couples seeking a polished, romantic, atmosphere with antique accents will fall in love with this gem of a space!

The sun-filled, redesigned studio oozes with happy vibes and gives couples a first-class, multi-sensory experience unlike any other. For years, I have tried to convince client's that Walt Disney World is a perfect venue for a wedding. However, many people have a misperception of a "Disney" wedding. I can't remember the first time I stayed at a luxurious hotel, but I know once I did, I was hooked! Perhaps you're thinking I was one of those spoiled rich kids who grew up with a silver spoon in my mouth? Well, I can assure you that wasn't the case. So, where did my lust for the finer things in life begin? www.priceline.com - I highly recommend the "Name Your Own Price" section of this site. 90% of the time, I utilize it to reserve four star accommodations. Why? It allows the bidder the chance to select the area of town they want to stay, the star level of the hotel and the price they are willing to pay. The bidder's credit card is charged only if their offer is accepted. For the years I have been using priceline.com, I've never bid higher than $110.00 a night for a resort level hotel. Most of the time, my submissions between $78 -$90 are accepted for a four star or resort hotel. The same hotel is usually listed on other websites at a nightly rate between $179.00 - $250.00.

A Champagne Infusion Bar is simply champagne laced with a variety of fruit juices/purees, brandies or liquors. I've talked before about adding touches that create a "Wow Factor" for your party. This colorful, flavorful option will make you the toast of the town! I'll admit I'm not a trained mixologist, but I just couldn't resist the opportunity to concoct a few...strictly for research purposes, of course. ( I can just envision your smirks!) I'm always excited when meeting a bride-to-be for the first time. She's just gotten engaged and is eager to plan the wedding of her dreams. She visits with colorful binders and tons of magazines in hand. Sticky notes tag photos of centerpieces, cakes, bouquets, etc. As we sit together gazing at pictures, my creative juices start to flow and my mind begins to craft the story the bride is entrusting me to bring to life for her special day.

When designing a client's event, I do so as if it were my own. It's important I utilize all aspects of the bride's vision, while adding extra touches that give it a "Wow" factor! I realize we have been conditioned to "Not Sweat the Small Stuff" and in most situations...I would agree...but not in this case. We are talking about a once-in-a-lifetime event. A time many have fantasied about since they were little girls. Details do matter on these occasions and can transform a wedding from beautiful to breathtaking.

Adding elements that accentuate decor for a ceremony and/or reception don't have to break a wedding's budget. Take a deep breath, close your eyes and envision the "look" you are trying to achieve. Is the design whimsical, classic, modern, etc? Next, imagine a touch of sparkle, a splash of color...something that dazzles. Your goal is to awe, not overpower. Below are a few ways to enchant your guests, while being mindful of your wedding budget.

After a full day of Freshman Parent Orientation at the University of Central Florida, the C.P.A. chefy hubby and I were ready to enjoy a glass of wine and a palette pleasing dinner. There were tons of restaurants around our hotel, but we were in the mood for pasta. Game on!

My inner diva demon was on the verge of a total meltdown. In plain English, I hadn't eaten all day, my sugar level had dropped and a hunger headache was setting in. Time was of the essence! We whipped out our iPhones and searched Yelp for an Italian restaurant worthy of our discerning taste. Moments later, my head was in full migraine mode. I NEEDED TO EAT! "I think I've found a place!" my chefy hubby announced, while loading the restaurant's address into our car's GPS. Within five minutes we pulled up to our destination.

Mangia Italian Bistro is nestled in a shopping center at the corner of University Blvd and Dean Road. The center is configured in such a way, it makes it difficult to see the restaurant's sign from the road. (Thank goodness for our GPS!) The bistro's decor is unpretentious and simple.You won't find linen napkins here. What you will find is Chef/Owner Maureen Simmons' gastronomical Italian creations that will send your taste buds into a tizzy. Mangia's menu includes a variety of homemade pastas and flatbread pizzas,as well as, several chicken and steak options. Our server Brad, was friendly, attentive and extremely knowledgeable as to how items were prepared.

After taking our order, he brought out our salads and a basket of fresh baked breads. It took all my willpower to keep from eating the entire basket of bread. The dressing on the Caesar salad wasn't overpowering. It was simply divine! The chefy hubby had selected the special for his main entree, an eggplant rollatini. For those unfamiliar with eggplant rollatini, it's similar to manicotti. Manicotti is made with a tubular shaped pasta, stuffed with a variety of cheeses, vegetables, beef, chicken or seafood and baked in a tomato sauce. Eggplant rollatini is created using thin slices of lightly breaded eggplant in place of pasta. It's lower in fat than manicotti and in my opinion, just as delicious.

Dinner arrived shortly after our salad plates were cleared. My hubby's face filled with joy, as he savored his first bite. Quickly loading up his fork for another bite, he lunged the utensil towards my mouth and insisted I have a taste. Wow! The eggplant had an unexpected crunch to it. The creamy cheese and the sweet tomato sauce complimented the eggplant perfectly. The dish was masterfully created to ensure a blended experience for the palette.

As my main course, I had chosen the salmon Alfredo. I know Alfredo is full of artery clogging ingredients, but everyone has to go someday, right? When I do, I want to die happy! I also have horrible childhood memories of eating spaghetti with tomato sauce. I grew up in a generation that believed in the "Clean Plate Club." However, due to my inability to eat anything other than bird sized portions...I never became a member. I remember being forced on numerous occasions by a friend's parent, to sit at their dinner table well after everyone else was excused in order to finish my spaghetti. The torture would continue until I consumed every ounce of spaghetti, or faked it by feeding it to the dog when no one was looking. Boy, that dog always loved when I came to visit! I still believe to this day that in the late 70's, I was the only kid on the planet never wanting to eat dinner out. So, as a result of my traumatic experiences with tomato sauce, I usually order white sauce on my pasta.

Now that you are aware of the background, let's return to the salmon Alfredo...

My meal included a hearty portion of salmon and steamed vegetables atop a mountain of penne. The salmon was grilled to perfection with a moist center. The sauce was surprisingly light with a subtle herbal flavor. I loved bite after bite!

As dinner began to wind down, Brad cheerfully reappeared and began rattling off Chef Simmons array of decadent desserts. My mouth began to water and panic began to set in. Panic, over which dessert to choose. My C.P.A. chefy hubby knew exactly which one he desired...Tiramisu. A battle brewed in my head between the creme brulee and key lime pie. Creme brulee was victorious. Dessert was absolutely orgasmic and solidified Mangia's as one of my favorite places to dine in Orlando!

Upscale "Adults Only" Ice Cream Soiree

Whether the temperature outside is a sizzling 100 degrees or a chilling 27, ice cream is always a staple in my freezer. I could eat ice cream anytime, day or night. In fact, there have been times I've treated my children to ice cream for dinner. Oh boy, did I did rock those nights! I have my parent's to thank for my ice cream addiction. I can recall numerous visits to Carvel and Baskin Robbins for a chilly treat. In fact, one year my brother won a contest at a Carvel store's grand opening. First prize was a year's worth of ice cream for the winner and their family. Once a week, my Dad would pile us into the family car and drive off to Carvel for our weekly frozen fix . Those were fun times!

Here's a little bit of trivia for you...did you know in 1984, Ronald Reagan decreed July as "National Ice Cream Month?" Since July is upon us, I thought I'd post a fun party idea to celebrate the occasion. Why not invite your friends over for an "Adults Only" Ice Cream Soiree? Yes, you read it right. No, I'm not suffering from brain freeze. Hire your babysitters, send the kids to grandma's...this is a night for embracing your ice cream passion!

What transforms a "Kids" ice cream bash into an alluring "Adult" get together? Imagine this...a table chicly decorated with slender glass bottles, filled with Grand Marnier, warm Grade B maple syrup, Chambord, aged balsamic vinegar and Kahlua. A hand-made, scripted tag is attached to each bottle with satin ribbon, acquainting guests with each liquid libation. Elegant glass bowls and jars in various shapes and sizes, overflowing with crystallized ginger, toasted coconut, sinful chocolate sauce, espresso powder, crushed pistachios, almonds, sliced strawberries, bite-sized pineapple chunks, graham cracker crumbs, cubed pound cake and brownies. In the center of the table, luscious vanilla bean, heavenly chocolate and bold coffee flavored ice cream are showcased in small glass or silver ice buckets. Embellished miniature picture frames are used as signage for the flavorful ice cream and tantalizing toppings. Guests concoct their decadent creations in10 oz martini glasses.

My Lunch Box

If you've got sixty minutes for lunch and seek a truly unique epicurean experience, your search is over! "Lunch Box" sessions at Datz Foodie's Market And Loft Bar are a stimulating, flavorful treat for your taste buds. This ingenious idea was cooked up by Datz owners Suzanne and Roger Perry, when exploring unique ways to add a daily spin to their restaurant's menu.

When I signed up to attend the "Lunch Box" salad session, I knew who'd be the best date...my friend Miriam. Miriam's an incredible cook! Over the many years we've been friends, I can't remember one thing she has whipped up that I didn't devour. Among our friends, she's known for her refreshing salads. She makes eating healthy...delicious.

Driving to Datz, my mouth watered just imagining the luscious desserts I'd soon see lining the bakery case. In my opinion, a meal without something sweet is a travesty. If our "Lunch Box" experience wasn't going to include dessert, I'd be making a beeline for the cupcakes. Oh happy joy!)

While parking the car what, I realized I had no idea what we were about to encounter. I just hoped whatever it was didn't require advanced cooking skills to participate. If so, I was doomed! Growing up, I was never taught the art of cooking, so I'm culinarily challenged. However, being unable to prepare a gourmet meal has never stopped me from enjoying one. The possibility of having this flaw exposed to a bunch of strangers in an intimate setting, made my stomach turn. I had to come up with a plan, just in case this was a "hands on" class, to save myself from embarrassment. Then, the idea hit me! I'll do the same thing I did as a teenager in Biology class when faced with the disgusting task of dissecting a frog...partner with someone who is good at it. When the instructor comes by, make it look like you are assisting. Perfect plan I thought, considering I had Miriam, the cooking genius as my date!

Fortunately for me, my fears instantly dissolved the minute I saw our table beautifully set with our first course (Caprese) skewered and elegantly displayed in a martini glass in front of each guest's seat. Well, that and the fact Chef Nikki and her assistant Moses were positioned behind our pub type table, pouring Cloudy Bay Sauvignon Blanc 2008 into Reidel wine glasses and prepping for our second course. For the next hour, I was thrilled to learn the proper way of concocting Lemon Parsley Vinaigrette. The trick I was told to getting the ingredients to incorporate, was to slowly whisk the olive oil into the acidic elements. We also sampled a light three bean salad sprinkled with candied lemon nuggets to give it the perfect dash of sweetness, as well as, hearty lentil, brown rice and cranberries mixed together with a raspberry walnut vinaigrette.

After enjoying three tasty salads, we chatted with other participants as our table was cleared and a white rectangular plate with a bright pink cocktail and a dainty artistic piece of chocolate was situated in front of us. The cocktail was a beer mixture of Ace Pear Cider and Raspberry Lambeck Beer. I am definitely not a beer lover, but the girly girl in me couldn't resist partaking in this pink creation. Raising the glass to my nose, I inhaled the sweet aroma of raspberries, but was surprised to actually taste a mellow flavor of pear. I gazed excitedly at the handcrafted confection created by chocolatier, William Dean. Rich, creamy, dreamy and all mine I thought! But wait, did Chef Nikki just mention this little work of art was flavored with grapefruit and tarragon? That's not exactly what I had in mind as the finale to my meal, but it looked like white chocolate...so it had to be luscious, right?. My taste buds went berserk as I savored the unexpected...light and refreshing with a subtle tangy aftertaste. A fellow attendee described it best when she exclaimed, " Don't eat pears...don't like beer...and feel like I've died and gone to heaven!"

The Diva's Trip to the Walt Disney World Dolphin

Swimming, BBQ's, Camp, Popsicles, Fireworks...Ah! The lazy days of summer are almost upon us. One thing I relish each summer, is vacations with my family. It's an opportunity for everyone to energize and reconnect. Over Memorial Day weekend, the C.P.A. Chef and I decided to kick off our summer with a trip to Starwood's Walt Disney World Dolphin in Lake Buena Vista, Florida.

As our car approached the hotel, I could feel my body begin to relax. In less than an hour I'd be finding a spot by the pool to people watch and enjoy a swim with my children. While checking in, I inquired if a room with a Disney view was available. Without hesitation, the staff member checked and before we knew it, we were unpacking our suitcases in a room that overlooked EPCOT at no extra charge.

While the kids headed off to the basketball court to join a game and my husband to a hammock for an afternoon nap, I found my happy place under an umbrella overlooking the main pool. Guests were a mixture of couples and families, that ranged in age from newborns to senior citizens. Music filled the air and attendants regularly stopped by to offer drinks and munchies from the Cabana Bar.

Before continuing to describe my family's experience at the Dolphin, I'd like to take a moment to acclimate you with the resort. The Dolphin is situated on 87 acres and shares amenities with the Swan Hotel. With three pools, eleven dining options, a full-service spa, tennis courts, basketball courts, miniature golf, boat rentals, child care at Dolphin Camp, two health clubs, a candy store, art gallery and a boutique filled with treasures from Brighton, Vera Bradley, Tommy Bahama, Lilly Pulitzer, etc., the resort has something for everyone! If however you still had the urge to venture outside of the resort's property, the Dolphin is a hop, skip and a jump from Disney's Boardwalk complex, offering more restaurants and bars, bicycle and boat rentals, arcade games and performances by a variety of street entertainers. When staying at the Swan or Dolphin, heading to the Disney parks doesn't require use of your car. EPCOT is within walking distance from the hotel, or you can take a relaxing ride there via water taxi. The water ferry also travels to Disney's Hollywood Studios. Bus Transportation runs continuously throughout the day and into the evening to and from Disney's Animal Kingdom and the Magic Kingdom. Although the Swan and Dolphin are not considered "Disney" resorts, they do allow guests to enjoy the perks of "Extra Magic Hours." Visit the hotel's front desk and/or concierge for a schedule as to which parks are offering "Extra Magic Hours" during your stay.

Now back to my trip...

After a fun-filled afternoon by the pool, my family and I had worked up an appetite. My son had just graduated high school the week before. To celebrate this milestone in his life, we dined at Shula's Steakhouse our first night away. Shula's offers a wide variety of steak, chicken and seafood. Salads and sides are a la carte. The night of our visit, Shula's was offering a special. Two could enjoy salads of their choice, a Shula cut filet and lobster tail accompanied by two sides for $89.00. My husband the C.P.A. Chef, quickly did the math. This same dinner if ordered from the regular menu would have come to at least $68.00 per person before tax and tip. We all enjoyed the special, as our little one gobbled up a huge, juicy hamburger from the children's menu. After satisfying the carnivore in us, my inner dessert demon was calling out for something devilishly sweet. Our server recommended the Chocolate Souffle for Two or the Chocolate Lava Cake. For chocoholics like us, that was an extremely troublesome decision. Yet after a family vote, we ordered both! Neither disappointed the palette.

I slept like a baby that night. The Heavenly Beds lived up to their name! It was like sleeping on a cloud.

The next day after an early morning game of tennis and a dip in the pool, we ventured over to the Cabana Bar to savor a leisurely lunch on bed styled seating. The food was fresh and creatively presented. I loved how the french fries were served in adorable mini frying baskets! You know, the ones fast food establishments use to fry french fries and onion rings in hot oil? Same look only mini. While munching, we enjoyed a bird's eye view of the basketball courts and a hula hoop competition. Everyone, including us, looked like they were having a wonderful time in the sun!

Although on vacation with my family, I couldn't resist the opportunity to indulge my inner diva at the Mandara Spa. When the bill for lunch arrived, it included a 20% off coupon good for a spa service of my choice. I took that as a sign, grabbed my cover up and headed for the spa! Ritual of the Hands and Feet caught my attention on the extensive list of spa services. I oozed with excitement, just imagining my hands and feet being pampered and polished! Before my treatment, I was escorted into a room that transported my senses to the island of Bali. As I sipped a cup of herbal tea and nestled myself in a couch filled with elaborately decorated pillows, I wished I could have paused time to savor the experience a bit longer. For almost two hours, Lucy primped and massaged my feet and hands. I have to say, she gave one of the best foot massages I have ever experienced. I floated out of the spa and back to my room, feeling like a million bucks!

The kids and the C.P.A. Chef, were in the mood for Italian on our last night away, so we headed to Il Mulino at the Swan Hotel for an authentic Italian meal. Il Mulino New York has been voted #1 by Zagat's rating system for years. Orlando's Il Mulino menu is modeled after the NY one, making it difficult to disappoint. The exposed brick walls, leather chairs and decorative glass give the restaurant a warm, cozy lofty feel. Their wine list is extensive, as well as, the drink menu. It's difficult deciding what to eat, since everything is so incredible! The pasta is delicious and the portions are huge. Think about asking for a half order, if trying to leave room for dessert. The Pollo Parmigiana was tender and juicy. My little one's pizza was dripping with cheese and fresh tomato sauce. Try your best to save room for the Tiramisu. Yum! Yum!

The morning of our departure, we requested a late check-out, in order to enjoy one last hurrah by the pool. Once again, our request was happily granted. What a fantastic experience we had at the Walt Disney World Dolphin. Check it out for yourself and see why my family and I will be back again and again!

I've Found Heaven!

This morning as I drove to work on auto pilot, a sign caught my immediate attention and brought me out of my trance. It wasn't the design of the sign that snapped me back to life, but the wording...Nicola's Donuts. Oh my...doughnuts! If there is one thing I can't resist, no matter what time of the day, it's a fresh, chocolate frosted, vanilla cream filled donut. I grew up on Dunkin Doughnuts in my home state of NJ. When my parents moved us to Florida, I was immediately introduced to Krispy Kreme Doughnuts. If the "Hot Now" sign was lit, you know I was there.

The route I navigated to the office didn't include a doughnut shop...until now. How could I squelch the temptation of enjoying a homemade donut, when someone up above had heard my morning cries for something sweet? I made a quick U-turn, pulled into the parking lot and sprinted into Nicola's. As I swung the door open, the smell of sugary delight made my mouth water, as my eyes gazed upon a wall and large glass case of colorful circles. These doughnuts were huge and truly homemade. Nicola's only had one other location in the entire United States and that one was also in Tampa.

The time had come for me to decide whether this place would forever change my morning commute, from drab to fab! I ordered a vanilla chocolate iced cream filled donut. The chocolate frosting oozed over the sides of this perfectly round confection. It immediately set it a part from other places, where the icing is barely visable or is so hard, it crumbles in the bag. As I bit into this gigantic round doughball, I was overcome by the incredible taste of chocolate and vanilla. This doughnut was packed and I mean packed with vanilla cream. Not just a squirt...packed! The chocolate icing...luscious.

Today, I didn't just find a new place for breakfast on my way to work....I found heaven! However, don't just take my word. Check it out for yourself.

Double insulation means your wines, beers, bottled waters, etc. stay cool in the iced tub and your counter top stays free of condensation. Grandin Road has insulated tubs in various styles to suit your taste. Worth the investment, these tubs last for years.

The Art of Mixology

Not every bartender is created equal. That was apparent on a recent trip to New Orleans. You'd think a city that wakes up and goes to sleep with a drink in its hand would have a million phenomenal bartenders at their disposal, right? That wasn't my experience while dining at two Zagat Rated restaurants with chic bars showcasing every high end liquor known to man.

Now I know what you are thinking. You're thinking what drink could I have possibly ordered to have caused such a stir? (No pun intended!) Drum roll please.....a SOUR APPLE MARTINI. Yes, that's right...a Sour Apple Martini. I realized that weekend away, that there was an art to creating a drink of this nature. It takes just the right mixture of vodka and pucker to give this martini just the right combo of sweet and sour. Not to mention, the drink needs to be served in a chilled martini glass, rimmed with sugar and garnished with a maraschino cherry or apple slice. I know flavored martinis hit a big time high when Sex and the City was on HBO. Everyone was into Cosmos because Carrie and her friends made drinking them cool. Not me, I gravitated to Sour Apple Martinis and have made it my mission to search out the best places to enjoy this lime green colored libation. So, if you are looking for great places to savor my favorite, the Sour Apple Martini...here are my picks for places not to miss! They're ranking in order from 1 - 4, with 1 being my absolute favorite.

1. Old Hickory Steakhouse - Orlando, Florida
     This swamp themed restaurant is nestled in the Gaylord Palms Resort and is known for its aged steaks
     and artisan cheeses. However, it's there Pygmy Rattlesnake that keeps me coming back for more!
     At the Old Hickory, that's what they call a Sour Apple Martini...a Pygmy Rattlesnake. I have to admit
    this one has more than a name change that makes it excitingly different...the martini's glass is rimmed with
     velvety caramel instead of sugar! My first time trying this drink, I thought I would be in for a rush of
     sweetness. Not at all! The O.H. mixologists must have read my mind, because instead of the caramel
     overpowering the drink...the cocktail was formulated to be a little more sour than usual. So, when licking
    the caramel and taking a sip...you have total nirvana!


2. Touche' Bar - New Orleans, LA
     This quaint mahogany bar on Royal Street in the heart of the French Quarter renewed my faith in the
    Cresent City for superb drinks. The people that patron this bar, are a mixture of locals and tourists. I'm a
     firm believer that if there are more locals in a bar than tourists...you have found a hidden treasure.
     I hit the jackpot! My only regret is that I can't remember the female bartender's name that took such
     pride in her art. However, I intend to return one day in the near future to Touche' Bar, enjoy a martini and
     get this mystery woman's name to share with you.

3. Campton Place Bar - San Francisco, CA
    Located in the Taj Campton Place hotel in the Union Square area of San Francisco, this posh lounge is
    where deals are made over drinks and swanky cuisine. On any given night, Campton Place Bar is packed
   with business people and hotel guests. The drinks are overpriced, but delicious and generous in size
   compared to other high end bars in the San Francisco area.

4. Blu Fig - Tampa, FL
    Don't let the shopping center location or the fact that it is located north of Kennedy Blvd fool you. Blu Fig
    is a gastronomical celebration for your mouth. It has become my husband a/k/a the Chefy C.P.A. and my
    date night getaway from our children. Ben, who always seems to be the bartender on our visits, knows his
    wines, beers and can mix a heck of a drink! I highly recommend anyone living in South Tampa venture
    north and experience one of Tampa's best bistros.

So, now you know where I like to enjoy the best Sour Apple Martinis. Know of a place that should make my list? I'm always open to adding others!

Mini Desserts...Big On Taste!

For all you people out there that think you can't have your cake and look great too...dessert minis will quickly change your thinking. I love this yummy trend that has taken the restaurant and catering industry by storm. Well, especially since my sweet tooth has always gotten the best of me! I guess my wish to savor sweets and treats without a ton of guilt has finally come true! Dessert Minis, as I call them are miniature versions of your favorite desserts. They give your taste buds enough zing to make your lips sing and with most of these minis being served in a chic shooter glass...your waistline...as long as you consume them in moderation... will stay as slim as the shot glass. Oh how I love this trend! Chocolate, you are now back to being my best friend!
